hamburg, 'river elbe tunnel' august 2007 this old tunnel crosses the elbe river shore to shore and has a total length of about 500 meters. although it was a sunny and warm day on the surface, passing deep down was cold, wet and dark... and a little spooky.
der tunnel zur anderen seite hamburg, elbtunnel dieser alte tunnel unterquert die elbe von ufer zu ufer und ist rund 500 meter lang. obwohl es oben heiß und sonnig war, war der spaziergang unter tage kalt, klamm und dunkel... und ein bisschen gruselig.
Great mood in this picture. Very dim - you can almost hear the eccoing footsteps.

@xdefeatsy: the whole place is very movielike. there are two parallel tubes which meet at the two ends in big halls. four giant elevators lift you to the surface from there. the tunnel was once used for car traffic.
